FORMER JUDGE CHARLES I. BARISH is of counsel to the law firm of Whitted, Cleary + Takiff, LLC. He served as an associate judge of the Cook County Circuit Court from 1981 to 1996, owned his own private practice in criminal defense from 1968-1981, and served as an assistant state's attorney for Cook County from 1961-1968. Mr. Barish served as president of the Illinois Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and president of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and was an instructor for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, teaching trial bar skills for practicing lawyers. His numerous former professional memberships include the Illinois State Bar Association's Juvenile Justice Commission; the Illinois State Bar Association's Illinois Judges Association; the Chicago Bar Association; the American Judges Association; the Northwest Suburban Bar Association; the North Suburban Bar Association; and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Mr. Barish earned his LL.B. from the University of Illinois, and his J.D. from John Marshal Law School/Roosevelt College in 1956.
